Bahrain’s hopes dashed by Iran

Iran defeated Bahrain in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-14) in the second round of the Asian U-18 Volleyball Championship, advancing to the semi-finals where they will face defending champions Japan. The match took place at the Game Federation Hall in Riffa, with Iran displaying dominance throughout. Bahrain struggled with ball stability and offensive effectiveness, while Iran excelled in serving and blocking.
This allowed Iran to win the first set comfortably. Despite making strategic lineup changes to rest key players for the upcoming semi-final, Iran maintained control. Bahrain showed a spark of competitiveness in the second set, taking the initiative briefly, but Iran quickly regained control and secured victory.
The third set saw Iran firmly in control, as Bahrain’s performance declined further, particularly in securing the first ball. Jassim Mohamed Madan was Bahrain’s top scorer with 15 points. Iran’s victory sets the stage for a highly anticipated semi-final match against Japan.
India secured a swift victory over Kazakhstan, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19. The match was part of the tournament’s battles for placements, as both teams aim to secure positions 9 to 12 in the standings.
India’s performance was marked by strong serves and effective net play, which kept Kazakhstan on the back foot throughout the match.
The Indian team showcased their strategic plays, maintaining control in all three sets and preventing Kazakhstan from finding a foothold in the game. China’s under-18 volleyball team delivered a masterclass performance, crushing Thailand 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-20) in the Asian Championship quarter-finals at the Volleyball Association Hall.
Led by standout players Li Zenyang and Ding, the Chinese team showcased powerful serves and formidable blocking to dismantle their opponents. From the outset, China controlled the game, utilizing aggressive serves and effective blocking. Thailand struggled offensively, often falling victim to China’s relentless defense.
Despite efforts to adapt, Thailand’s numerous errors widened the point gap in favor of China, with playmaker Haokin’s strategic serves playing a crucial role. Australia’s under-18 volleyball team defeated the Philippines 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15) in the Asian Championship ranking rounds. Australian player Vimatahio led the charge, scoring 20 points to secure the victory. Australia started strong, winning the first two sets with effective offensive strategies.
The Philippines claimed the third set, but Australia’s consistent play and strategic serves helped them clinch the final set and the match. The match was attended by Philippine Ambassador Ann Lewis, who has been supporting her team throughout the tournament. Japan’s under-18 volleyball team claimed the top spot in their group after defeating Pakistan 3-1 (22-25, 28-26, 25-18, 25- 15) in the Asian Championship’s second round. With this win, Japan advances to the semi-finals. Pakistan initially took the lead, benefiting from Mohamed Yahya’s strong offensive play.
However, Japan rebounded in the subsequent sets, with players Maeda Sui and Yuki showcasing improved coordination and skill. Japan’s defense tightened, and they capitalized on Pakistan’s decline in focus to secure victory.
Despite Pakistan’s early advantage, Japan’s superior play ensured a decisive win, setting the stage for their semi-final clash. Hong Kong’s under-18 volleyball team triumphed over Lebanon 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25- 21) in the Asian Championship ranking rounds.
Ko Shing stood out as the best player, scoring 20 points and leading his team to victory. After dropping the first set, Hong Kong adjusted their strategy, dominating the subsequent sets with effective serves and strong defense. Lebanon struggled to keep pace, allowing Hong Kong to secure the win. Saudi Arabia celebrated its first victory in the Asian Volleyball Championship after four consecutive defeats, overcoming Kuwait with a convincing 3-0 win. The match scores were 25-14, 25-19, and 29-27.
Saudi Arabia’s player, Azzam Al-Subaie, was instrumental in the win, scoring 20 points over the three sets. South Korea delivered a strong performance against Chinese Taipei, winning 3-0 in the final match of the second round of the Asian Volleyball Championship.
The set scores were 25-20, 25- 16, and 25-19. Both teams are now set to compete for positions 5 to 8, following the confirmation of Japan and Pakistan advancing to the semi-finals. Bader Al-Kous, a member of the Asian U-18 Volleyball Championship technical committee, praised the high level of competition and talent showcased by participating teams. He emphasized the importance of agegroup competitions in developing future volleyball talent.
