Kuwait Edges Past Al-Ahli in Tense Battle
In a tightly contested match at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, Kuwait SC secured their spot in the Asian Champions League 2 group stage with a 1-0 win over Al-Ahli, thanks to a decisive second-half goal by Bahraini national Mohamed Marhoon. The win sent Kuwait SC through to the next round, while Al-Ahli was relegated to the Challenge League group stage for the 2024-2025 season.
Challenging Conditions and Early Setback
The game, played under sweltering conditions, saw both teams struggle with the intense heat and humidity, which hindered their performance. Al-Ahli faced a significant setback when defender Sayed Qasim Abdullah received a red card in the 21st minute, forcing his team to play with ten men. Despite their numerical advantage, Kuwait SC couldn't capitalize until the 83rd minute when Marhoon eventually found the back of the net.
Late Drama and Controversy
As the match neared its conclusion, tempers flared when Al-Ahli's Sayed Mohamed Amin was also sent off in the 88th minute. Despite protests from Al-Ahli's players and staff, the result stood, with Kuwait SC coming out on top in a match that will be remembered for its drama and the crucial partnership between Bahrain and Kuwait.
