Bahraini National Handball player Ahmed Al Maqaabi has expressed his sincere gratitude to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, for his unwavering support and direct instructions in resolving a recent issue faced by the player while in Kuwait.

The Daily Tribune reported on August 30, 2024 that the player was stranded in Kuwait after being prevented from leaving the country due to a legal dispute with a housing rental company.

Al Maqaabi, who played for a Kuwaiti club between 2021 and 2022, was informed by Kuwaiti border officials that he was barred from exiting the country due to a court order stemming from a case filed against him by the rental company. The company claimed Al Maqaabi owes over 20,000 Kuwaiti dinars in unpaid rent.

His return to the Kingdom was made possible two days ago following collective efforts led by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

"I thank His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his constant support for me and all Bahraini handball players," Al Maqaabi stated. "This significant gesture from His Highness is unforgettable.

He always strives to ease any obstacles we face as players. Without his orders to the officials, I wouldn't have been able to resolve the issue. This responsibility compels me to reciprocate and live up to expectations by serving Bahraini sports through handball."

Al Mqaabi added, "We are immensely proud to have His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa leading Bahraini sports. He consistently supports us as players in various situations, both personally and professionally, demonstrating his commitment to creating the best conditions for raising the profile of Bahraini sports by supporting and assisting athletes. We will always strive to repay this debt of gratitude and show our appreciation for the care and attention we receive."

Meanwhile, Ali Isa Ishaqi, President of the Bahrain Handball Association, also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his constant commitment to resolving any obstacles faced by international players in all sports, particularly handball.

"His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has accustomed us to addressing issues concerning handball with complete positivity," Ishaqi said. "We witnessed this in numerous instances, most recently with the case of Al Maqaabi. His Highness's orders and guidance were instrumental in resolving the issue and facilitating the player's swift return home."
