Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed confidence in backup goalkeeper Inaki Pena to step in for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen, while also suggesting the club may consider signing a replacement. Ter Stegen, the team's first-choice keeper, suffered a ruptured knee tendon during Sunday’s match against Villarreal, requiring surgery and likely sidelining him for the rest of the season.
Pena, who previously replaced Ter Stegen last season during a back injury, is expected to start in Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga clash against Getafe on Wednesday.
"Inaki has been excellent in pre-season and training. He’s a professional goalkeeper who has worked hard for this moment," Flick said in a press conference. "For a backup keeper, staying focused is always a challenge, but from what I see, he’s ready to play. We trust him, but we also need to evaluate our next steps regarding the situation."
