Yesterday, at the Fu Jen University, Bahrain’s U20 football team stormed to a strong 4-0 win over Nepal, recovering impressively from their recent setback against Cambodia.
This win keeps Bahrain's qualification hopes alive as they prepare for a crucial test with group leaders Uzbekistan, who also won 3-1 against Chinese Taipei.
The match will take place tomorrow at 10am also at Fu Jen Univeristy.
The Break Down
The match started off strongly with Bahrain controlling the pace and momentum. Sami Bassam opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a pinpoint freekick, and just before halftime, Khaled AlKhalaf extended the lead to 2-0 with a deflected freekick.
In the second half, Bahrain maintained their dominance. Sami Bassam found the net again in the 74th minute, completing his brace and further cementing Bahrain’s lead.
The Nepalis had no answer for the youngster, as he weaved through their backline before scoring from long-range, leaving the keeper completely helpless.
The three points were sealed in the 83rd minute when Ali Ahmed was left unchallenged in the box and headed in the 4th goal.
Road Ahead
Bahrain remain third in the group standings, with 6 points, still within a chance of qualification.
Their upcoming match against group leaders Uzbekistan will be a tough test. Uzbekistan has been in excellent form, winning every one of their matches by large margins. A win could see Bahrain push into the top two if other results go their way.
With confidence restored, Bahrain’s youngsters will be looking to give everything, knowing that their fate in the tournament hangs in the balance.
