Uganda national team escape deadly bus crash

Uganda's national football team cheated death in a bus crash in which five people were killed Tuesday, reports said.

The Ugandan Cranes were travelling in the eastern Budaka region after meeting President Yoweri Museveni to show him the regional Cecafa Cup trophy they won on Saturday in Ethiopia.

Five people in a minibus taxi were killed in the collision, traffic police officer Paul Okongo told the Daily Monitor newspaper, blaming the crash on "reckless" driving.

National team member Joseph Ochaya told the paper; "We got a puncture and the bus lost control. It rammed into a taxi and a number of people travelling in the taxi are dead," adding that  two players were injured.

"Thank God, we are all fine with minor injuries," he added.

On Saturday, Uganda beat Rwanda 1-0 to take the Cecafa Cup for the fifth time in the last seven years.
