Chasing Record Fifth Title

Rory McIlroy, the reigning champion of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, has officially confirmed his participation in the 2025 edition of the prestigious event. Set to take place at the Emirates Golf Club from January 16–19, 2025, the World No. 3 will be vying for a record fifth victory at the tournament, adding further anticipation to an already highly awaited competition.

McIlroy, who previously secured wins in 2009, 2015, 2023, and 2024, is aiming to lift the iconic Dallah Trophy for the third consecutive year. Should he succeed, he will become the first golfer to claim the title five times, cementing his legacy at the Rolex Series event, which forms a crucial part of the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai.

With a $9 million prize pool up for grabs, McIlroy will headline a world-class field of competitors. His participation ensures that the 36th edition of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will once again feature some of the most talented golfers in the world.

McIlroy’s Return

Reflecting on his 2024 victory, McIlroy delivered one of the tournament's most memorable performances. After starting the weekend ten shots behind, he clawed his way back into contention with a stunning third-round 63, positioning himself in the final group on Sunday. Facing a two-shot deficit, McIlroy birdied the challenging eighth and ninth holes and turned it into a four-shot lead with six holes remaining, eventually winning by one stroke.

Looking ahead to 2025, McIlroy expressed his excitement about returning to Dubai. “I’m excited to be coming back to the Emirates Golf Club for the 2025 event. This is a tournament I love, and adding a fifth title would be incredibly special as a way to start the year. The support we get in Dubai is always fantastic, and I look forward to what is always a competitive event,” he said.
