Last Friday, the Domestic Boxing Open Air Event in Bahrain, organized by the Bahrain Boxing Federation (BBF) at the Dilmun Club in Saar, delivered a night of intense competition. Featuring around 15 to 20 bouts with boxers from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, the event was a celebration of regional boxing talent. Among the standout performers was local middleweight sensation Ali Alaradi, who came out on top, further solidifying his position as one of Bahrain’s top fighters.
Speaking exclusively to Hussain Almaskati of The Daily Tribune, Alaradi reflected on his experience of fighting in front of an electric home crowd and shared his ambitions for the upcoming Royal Rumble III event.
Mentality, Strategy, and Training: Keys to Victory
Alaradi’s fight was one of the night’s highlights, and his confidence in the ring shone through. He detailed his strategic approach to the fight, focusing on his preparation, mentality, and calculated movements.
“I felt excited for my fight last Friday,” Alaradi said. “Fighting as a middleweight always feels riskier than as a lightweight, but I was confident. The key for me was taking my time to understand my opponent’s movement and rhythm. He had some powerful right overhand shots, but I was able to use my defense to block them effectively.”
Alaradi's ability to read his opponent’s movements paid off when he landed a well-timed right straight hand that caught his opponent off guard, leading to an eight-second count. "That moment shifted the momentum," he recalled. "I kept the pressure on, throwing more right-hand shots, and the referee decided to stop the fight with just 10 seconds left in the first round."
Reflecting on what made the difference in the ring, Alaradi credited his mindset, experience, and training. “It was my will to win, combined with my ring experience and training, that made the difference that night,” he said.
The Power of a Home Crowd
Fighting in front of a home crowd provided Alaradi with a unique advantage, one that he doesn’t take for granted. The Domestic Boxing Open Air Event was packed with local supporters, and Alaradi was visibly moved by their presence.
“There’s nothing like fighting and winning in front of your home crowd,” he shared. “Seeing my family and friends ringside meant the world to me. Their support fills me with pride, motivates me to keep going, and brings an everlasting sense of love and connection.”
Alaradi added that winning in front of his loved ones and celebrating immediately afterward created a life-giving moment he will never forget. “Their support is one of the main reasons why I continue to box,” he said, emphasizing how meaningful it is to him.
Preparing for Royal Rumble III
Looking ahead to Royal Rumble III, where boxing legend Amir Khan and HH Sheikh Khalid are expected to be in attendance, Alaradi is already focusing on his next challenge. He acknowledges the pressure but sees it as a positive force that drives him forward.
“Boxing in front of Amir Khan and HH Sheikh Khalid is a dream come true,” Alaradi said. “It’s positive pressure, and I’m continuing to train with responsibility and intention.”
Balancing a 9-5 job with intense camp-style training is no easy task, but Alaradi remains committed to his dream of reaching the pinnacle of his boxing career. He mentioned that sponsorships and additional support from local and international companies could greatly aid his preparation for upcoming matches. “I juggle a 9-5 job and camp-style training, but I will continue to pursue my dream. Sponsorships would certainly help me take my training to the next level,” he added.
Staying Focused on the Next Challenge
With back-to-back competitions on the horizon, including last week's Domestic Boxing Open Air Event and the upcoming Royal Rumble III set to take place on November 29 at the Crowne Plaza, Alaradi remains laser-focused on his preparation. He emphasized the importance of not underestimating any opponent, no matter their background or reputation.
“I will need to prepare for this by never underestimating my opponent, whoever they may be. That always gives me an edge in preparation and competition,” he said. “It’s all part of a plan, and I trust it.”
Alaradi’s faith plays a significant role in his boxing journey, and he attributes his ability to stay active and focused to the power of Allah swt. “Like everyone else, I can win or lose, but what will differentiate the result is how I choose to prepare from now on. My will to do it, combined with Allah’s guidance, is what keeps me going.”
Looking Ahead
As he prepares to face top-tier opponents at Royal Rumble III, including fighters from the British Army Royal Engineers, Alaradi is drawing on every ounce of his mental and physical strength. “It’s a mix of things—having the right team, a strong mentality, physical preparation, and proper recovery,” he explained.
For Ali Alaradi, the journey is far from over. With his gold medal win behind him and a high-profile bout looming, Bahrain’s boxing hero is ready to rise to the occasion once again.
