Sparsh upsets top seed Ali Al Sharif in RJ Tennis

Sparsh Parmar shocked top-seed Ali Al Sharif by coming from a set down to defeat him 3-6, 7-6(4), 10-4 in a tough three-setter yesterday in the Round of 16, of the Boys 12 years-and-under singles at the RJ Investment Holding Juniors Open Tennis Championship organised by the Bahrain Tennis Club at its premises in Juffair.

Second seeded Jaber Abdul A’al had no problem overcoming Krishna Tilani 6-0, 6-0. In other matches, Mohammed Al Khan was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Mubarak Al Khalifa, A Sonawane got the better of Kazuma Miyawaki 6-0, 6-4, while Sai Raghav Balikrishnan overcame the challenge of Mohammed Kamran 6-0, 6-2.

Mohammed Al Shehabi beat off the challenge by Faris Hajjar 6-0, 6-2, and Ken Belt was a comfortable 6-0,6-1 winner over Jerome Shiby. Abdulla Nass received a walkover win from Aqeel Mohammed.

Today the quarterfinals are set to take place at 4pm.

Meanwhile, in the Boys 14 years-and-under singles, Yousef Faisal beat Ahmed Ibrahim 7-5, 6-4 and plays Yuya Wakamutsa in today’s semifinal at 5pm, with the winner taking on Avneet Singh in tomorrow’s final.

The tournament, which runs till National Day on December 16, also features competition in the Girls 18 years-and-under singles starting tomorrow, the Unisex 8 and 10 years-and-under singles on Friday and the Boys 18 years-and-under on Saturday.

More than 100 players have entered the championship, playing in six categories.

It was also announced that the winners will receive a free subscription at the health club of Al Areen Palace and Spa, and free entry tickets to the Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, among other
prizes.
