Royal support for Frankie Edgar

First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa arrived in Las Vegas to attend the UFC-TUF 22 Ultimate Fighting Championship on Friday.

He was greeted at the airport by members of the Bahrain Embassy to the US.

Shaikh Khalid arrived to support American professional fighter Frankie Edgar, who is the latest member of the Khalid Hamad Khalid Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) team. The BAA President, on arrival, expressed gratitude and appreciation to the UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta for their extensive support to mixed martial arts, that reflects the organisation’s successful development of the global sport. He said, “We are here once again in Las Vegas...”, this time to support professional Edgar, with an 18 win-4 draw-1 loss record, who will be facing fellow American Chad Mendes (17 win 3 draws) on Friday.

Shaikh Khalid said the objectives of Bahrain’s competing in such international events boosts the Kingdom’s position on the world map of sports, and promote the sport amongst the youth of the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

He later watched Edgar in training, ahead of his weigh-in tomorrow, and was briefed on the latest preparations.
