Carlos Alcaraz expressed that facing his idol, Rafael Nadal, for the final time will be a “difficult moment” as both Spanish tennis stars prepare to meet in the semifinals of the “Six Kings Slam” exhibition event in Riyadh.

Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles, announced his retirement from tennis last week, revealing he will bow out after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next month.

After defeating Holger Rune 6-4, 6-2 to set up this emotional showdown, Alcaraz took a moment on court to reflect on his admiration for Nadal. “Since I started playing tennis, I’ve been watching his matches. I look up to him, and I grew up watching him. He was my idol, and he still is,” Alcaraz said.

The reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion acknowledged Nadal’s significant impact on his life and career, stating, “He’s a really important person for me, and he was one of the reasons I wanted to become a professional tennis player. Knowing he is going to retire is pretty tough for everyone, especially for me.”

As they prepare to share the court once again, Alcaraz added, “I will try to enjoy this moment, but I think it’s really difficult for everyone.”
