The Portuguese tactician believes he has the mindset to conquer football’s "impossible job."

Rúben Amorim is Manchester United’s sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, but the 39-year-old is undeterred by the daunting task ahead. Speaking at a packed press conference at Carrington Training Centre on Friday, Amorim radiated optimism as he outlined his vision for restoring United’s past glories.

A New Era Begins

"I'm a little bit of a dreamer," Amorim admitted, his passion evident. "I believe in myself, I believe in the club, we have the same mindset." The Portuguese coach, who joined the Red Devils on Nov. 11, expressed unwavering faith in his squad, even amid doubts from fans and pundits.

His first test comes Sunday against Ipswich Town, as United aim to halt their decade-long title drought. Since Ferguson’s departure in 2013, a carousel of managers—ranging from Louis van Gaal to Ole Gunnar Solskjær—have tried and failed to meet the club’s towering expectations.

The Impossible Job

Widely regarded as one of football’s most scrutinized roles, the Manchester United job has earned a reputation as an "impossible" task. Amorim, however, dismissed the notion with a confident laugh. "I truly believe in the players. I know you (the media) don't believe a lot, but I do," he said.

Known for his innovative tactics at Sporting CP, Amorim’s philosophy blends attacking football with a strong emphasis on youth development—a perfect fit for a club built on the traditions of the "Class of '92."

"Trying New Things"

Amorim’s hiring marks United’s latest attempt to find a leader capable of bridging their illustrious past with a brighter future. "I want to try new things," he declared, undaunted by the pressure. "You guys don't think it’s possible, I do."

Amorim’s optimism might feel like a gamble, but his track record at Sporting—where he delivered a Primeira Liga title and molded stars like Pedro Gonçalves—suggests he thrives on challenging expectations.

As Amorim prepares to step into Old Trafford’s dugout for the first time, he carries the hopes of millions. Whether he’s the dreamer who can finally awaken Manchester United from their slumber remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Amorim’s belief in the club and its players might just be the catalyst they need.
