Bahrain faces the UAE today in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers, with both teams aiming to make a statement in the race for progression. The game, held at Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall in Dubai, sees Bahrain looking to build on their recent win, while the UAE seek their first win of the campaign.
Bahrain Buoyed by Momentum
Bahrain come into the contest on the back of a 76-71 win over Syria, a game that saw Ahmed Haji hit a record-breaking 11 three-pointers. While Haji’s heroics were headline-worthy, Bahrain’s overall performance in the first half, where they built a 20-point lead, showed the team’s growing confidence and cohesion.
Coach Sam Vincent will be keen to see his side replicate that dominance against an Emarati team struggling to find form. With Mustafa Rashed and Devon Dwayne Chism also in fine form, Bahrain will look to maintain their balanced attack and defensive intensity.
UAE Searching for Redemption
The UAE come into the fixture off a heavy 99-77 defeat to Lebanon. Defensive frailties and an inability to contain high-scoring offenses have left them winless so far. However, playing at home could provide the spark needed to reignite their campaign.
For the Emarati side, containing Bahrain’s perimeter threats and disrupting their offensive rhythm will be key. They will also need a standout performance from their frontcourt to match Bahrain’s physicality in the paint.
High Stakes
With the qualifiers entering a critical phase, both teams have much to play for. Bahrain will be eager to consolidate their position in the group and move closer to qualification, while the UAE are desperate to avoid slipping further behind.
