On day two of the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, the spotlight was on 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a talented left-handed batsman from Bihar. Suryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest player ever to be sold at the IPL auction, fetching $131,000 from Rajasthan Royals. The Royals triumphed over Delhi Capitals in a bidding war for the young prodigy, whose long sixes have already caught attention.
TATA IPL shared the milestone on X, celebrating Suryavanshi's entry into the league, while Rajasthan Royals tweeted their excitement, welcoming the teen star. Hailing from Samastipur, Suryavanshi had already made headlines with his early debut in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy at just 12 years old, further establishing his extraordinary potential.
The auction also saw notable deals, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar being secured by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for $1.275 million, while Deepak Chahar was bought by Mumbai Indians for $1.1 million. Other high-profile players like Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep fetched lucrative sums. However, some big names, including Kane Williamson and Shardul Thakur, went unsold.
The auction reflected the high demand for Indian talent, with Indian players like Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive in IPL history, sold for $3.19 million to Lucknow Super Giants. The excitement around the auction was palpable, with franchise owners like Preity Zinta of Punjab Kings and Juhi Chawla Mehta of Kolkata Knight Riders expressing their enthusiasm on social media.
As the IPL gears up for its 18th season in March, the auction in Jeddah marked an electrifying start to what promises to be another thrilling chapter in the league’s history.
