Salbiev and Janković secure singles titles; Turkish and Cypriot duos dominate doubles events
The curtains fell yesterday on the J60 ITF Junior Tennis Championship, hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation from December 2–8. The competition concluded with Russia's Marat Salbiev claiming the boys’ singles title and Serbia's Masa Janković triumphing in the girls’ singles final.
In the boys’ doubles, the Turkish pair Imran Bulut and Yazgi Yildiz secured victory, while the girls’ doubles title went to Cyprus’ Maria Andrew and Britain’s Maria Ostick.
Salbiev Wins Boys’ Singles Final
Top-seeded Marat Salbiev of Russia displayed exceptional skill to overcome Tunisia’s Iskander Nasseri in a thrilling three-set final. Salbiev took the first set comfortably 6-1 but faced fierce resistance in the second, narrowly losing it 6-7 (8). The deciding set saw Salbiev regain momentum, clinching the title with a 6-3 win.
Janković Shines in Girls’ Singles
Serbia's Masa Janković, the tournament's top seed, delivered a commanding performance against fourth-seeded Alisa Gronković of Russia. Janković won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, capitalizing on Gronković’s unforced errors and maintaining steady control throughout the match.
Doubles Champions Crowned
In the boys’ doubles, Turkey’s Imran Bulut and Yazgi Yildiz emerged victorious over Tunisia’s Nasseri and Lebanon’s Giorgio Beidan, winning 6-2, 7-6 (2). The girls’ doubles title was claimed by Maria Andrew of Cyprus and Maria Ostick of Britain, defeating Latvia’s Aleksandra Rozkalina and Armenia’s Alina Soghomonyan 6-1, 7-5 in the final.
Closing Ceremony
Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Tennis Federation, along with Secretary-General Fouad Al-Ruwaihi, awarded trophies to the finalists in an official ceremony. Sheikh Abdulaziz praised the players' exceptional performances and expressed pride in Bahrain’s role as a host for such prestigious tournaments, reaffirming the Federation's commitment to nurturing local talent through exposure to high-level competition.
The J60 event was part of a series of international tournaments held by the Bahrain Tennis Federation in November and December, reflecting the Kingdom’s growing status in the global tennis community.
