Bahrain’s handball team prepares for 2025 world championship

Bahrain has unveiled its preliminary squad for the upcoming 2025 World Handball Championship, as the national team embarks on an ambitious journey to make its mark on the global stage.

The 25-player roster, announced by the Bahrain Handball Federation, includes standout names such as captain Husain AlSayyad and Mohammed Habib AlNasser. Players from key domestic clubs like AlNajma, AlAhli, and Al-habab dominate the lineup, alongside those competing internationally for Saudi clubs.

Preparation and Training

The team’s training program began on Saturday, with sessions taking place in Bahrain before they head to Denmark for a high-intensity training camp. There, they will play two friendly matches against Denmark’s national team, a tough opponent and reigning world champions.

Tournament Overview

The 2025 World Handball Championship, co-hosted by Croatia, Denmark, and Norway, will run from January 14 to February 2. Bahrain is placed in Group C, with their matches set to be held in Porec, Croatia, at the Žatika Sport Centre.

Their group stage schedule includes matches against Croatia on January 15, Egypt on January 17, and Argentina on January 19.

Bahrain’s previous best finish at the World Championship was 16th in 2023, a milestone the team is keen to surpass. With seasoned coach Aron Kristjánsson at the helm and a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, the team is optimistic about its prospects.
