Tunisian stars dominate semifinal lineup at Arab Elite Tennis

The fourth Arab Elite Tennis Championship, organized by the Bahrain Tennis Federation, reaches its semifinals on Saturday. The tournament, hosted at the Public Security Officers Club, features top-ranked Arab players from the ATP and ITF circuits.

In the highly anticipated semifinal matchups, Tunisia’s Aziz Dougaz will face Egypt’s Mohamed Saf-wat, while fellow Tunisian Moez Echargui is set to play Syria’s Hazem Nou.

The quarterfinals, held yesterday, showcased high-level performances that thrilled spectators. De-fending champion and top-seeded Tunisian Aziz Dougaz took another step toward retaining his title, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Ammar Al-Haqbani in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

In a dramatic turnaround, Tunisian Moez Echargui overcame Algeria’s Samir Hamza, rallying from a first-set loss to win 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Meanwhile, Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat booked a clash with Dougaz in the semis after a hard-fought victory over Tunisia’s Ala Trifi, 6-4, 7-6. Completing the sem-ifinal roster, Syria’s Hazem Nou ousted Tunisia’s Aziz Al-Waqi with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win.

Classification Matches

In the classification rounds, Algeria’s Mohamed Makhlouf defeated Jordan’s Mohamed Qutb 3-6, 6-3, 13-11. Algeria’s Tawfiq Sahtli bested Morocco’s Taha Badi 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. Egypt’s Kareem Ibrahim secured a win against Bahrain’s Elias Abdulreda 6-4, 6-1, while Lebanon’s Fadi Beidan overcame Egypt’s Kareem Mabrouk 6-4, 7-5.

“The tournament is exceptional, both in terms of organization and the high level of competition,” said Aziz Dougaz, noting the strong field of Arab players.
