Sports dispute panel hails Shaikh Nasser’s initiative

Legal consultants and specialists from across the GCC commended the initiative of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president, to form a committee tasked at solving sports disputes in the region.

They stressed forming such a panel is a cultural boom for sports in the Arabian Gulf region, and highlighted Bahrain as a leading development model.

This was announced at the committee’s opening workshop held yesterday at the Sheraton Hotel in Manama.

The gathering was chaired by General Secretary of the UAE Olympic Committee and member of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Mohammed Al Kamali, starting with a speech by Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar, he welcomed the members of the committee, legal consultants and the GCC General Secretariat, and said that the Kingdom of Bahrain is proud to embrace the headquarters of this body and looks at it as another achievement.

Late on, Al Kamali made a presentation on what has been achieved so far since the initiative was proposed. He also reviewed the objectives and terms of reference assigned to this panel, which promises to offer various benefits to sports in the GCC in the fields of training.

Among those present were legal consultant Mohammed Mejbel, Attorney Suad Yaseen and Legal Scholar Ismail Abdullatif, who all commended the initiative of Shaikh Nasser to form a joint GCC committee, which they described as a pioneer step to find solutions to all disputes in sports competitions in the Arabian Gulf region.
