Louis Klein of Czechia delivered a masterclass performance to claim victory at the third edition of the Junior Dubai Desert Classic, setting a Junior Course Record with a stunning 9-under 63 in the second round. The 15-year-old finished the tournament with a remarkable total of 15-under par over three days of intense competition at Emirates Golf Club.
The prestigious event, hosted by the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in collaboration with the Emirates Golf Federation, welcomed 64 of the world’s best junior golfers, all aged 18 and under. This year, the tournament achieved World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®) status for the first time, further elevating its profile.
The tournament began under the lights of the Faldo Course, with the top 30 players and ties advancing to the final round on the iconic Majlis Course. Klein dazzled with rounds of 69 and his record-breaking 63 on the Faldo Course, highlighted by six consecutive birdies from the seventh hole. He sealed his victory with a final-round 69 on the Majlis Course, finishing eight strokes ahead of Norway’s Daniel Nilsson, who secured second place with a 7-under 209. India’s Pritish Karayat finished third at even-par 216.
“It’s an amazing feeling to win the Junior Dubai Desert Classic, one of the best junior events in the UAE,” said Klein, who has been playing golf since the age of five. “The second day was incredible – I hit 18 greens, almost every fairway, and my putting was great. Playing under the lights was a challenge at first because I wear glasses, but I adapted, and everything came together perfectly.”
As part of his victory, Klein earned WAGR® points, a Callaway Tour Custom Fit Experience, and invitations to several prestigious tournaments, including the Faldo Series Grand Final, Shubhankar Sharma Junior Series Final, JAGA Grand Final, and a Clutch Pro Tour event.
Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, praised the young golfers, saying, “Events like these are vital for nurturing the next generation of golf stars. Congratulations to Louis on this incredible achievement – his talent and determination are truly inspiring. We look forward to seeing him and others continue to rise in the sport.”
The Junior Dubai Desert Classic serves as a precursor to the 36th edition of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, which will feature some of the biggest names in golf, teeing off on Thursday, January 16, at Emirates Golf Club.
