Rising American golf star Akshay Bhatia is eagerly anticipating his debut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, set to take place at the iconic Emirates Golf Club from January 16-19. The 22-year-old, a two-time PGA Tour winner, is ready to showcase his game on an international stage, joining a star-studded field at the Middle East’s oldest DP World Tour event.

Bhatia, who claimed victory at the 2023 Barracuda Championship—a dual-sanctioned event on the DP World and PGA Tours—is following in the footsteps of legendary players like Tiger Woods, Cameron Young, and Bryson DeChambeau.

“Having the opportunity to bring my game overseas is really cool,” Bhatia shared. “I love learning about the history of places, iconic shots, and, obviously, the trophy is pretty sweet. Cam Young told me the event was amazing, and Viktor [Hovland] said I’d love it. Everyone I’ve spoken to has only great things to say about Dubai and this tournament.”

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic boasts a formidable lineup this year, including four-time champion Rory McIlroy, two-time Major winner Jon Rahm, and 2023 FedExCup champion Viktor Hovland. Other notable names such as Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, and the Højgaard twins further bolster what promises to be one of the strongest fields in the event’s history.

Bhatia acknowledges the depth of talent he will face and is ready for the challenge. “I expect the competition to be great,” he said. “Guys who’ve earned their PGA Tour card from the DP World Tour are ready to win. Players like Matthieu [Pavon] and the Højgaard brothers are incredibly talented. Add in Rory and Rahm, and you’ve got an exceptional field.”

Despite the tough competition, Bhatia is focused on making the most of his opportunity. “Just having the chance to compete and play in this event is exciting. Whether it’s the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, or anywhere else, every win matters. I’m looking forward to testing myself and, hopefully, being in contention on Sunday.”

As the ‘Major of the Middle East’ approaches, Bhatia’s enthusiasm and readiness reflect the growing global appeal of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, setting the stage for an unforgettable week of golf.
