The annual Green Brown Challenge between Awali Golf Club and the Royal Golf Club concluded with Awali retaining the trophy after an impressive 8-2 victory.
Played in a pairs better-ball matchplay format, the event saw 20 players from each club compete across the distinctive surfaces of Bahrain’s golf courses.
The competition began on the browns at Awali Golf Club and continued on the grass greens of the Royal Golf Club, which are primed for the upcoming DP World Tour event starting January 30. The format allowed for a total of 10 matches, with each match contributing one point or half a point in case of a draw.
Awali, the defending champions from 2024, needed just five points to retain the trophy. From the outset, they dominated the contest, securing an emphatic win for their second consecutive title since the event’s inception in 2011.
Sam Hobday, Director of Golf Operations at the Royal Golf Club and a former Bahrain Open champion, praised the event: “Another fantastic day of golf on the sand and grass, bringing both clubs together for this eagerly awaited challenge match. We look forward to trying to regain the trophy next year.”
Awali Captain Steve Newall celebrated his team’s achievement, calling the event “a great test of the different golfing environments within the Kingdom of Bahrain.” He added, “Congratulations to my team on winning the trophy, and hopefully, we can continue our success and defend it in 2026!”
Prizes were distributed by Sam Hobday, with the victorious Awali team proudly receiving the trophy, marking another chapter in this unique and competitive tradition.
