Kern Wales delivered a stunning performance to claim the Kanoo Cup with a remarkable 63 net, while Nasser Yaqoob Saleh secured the Medal for best gross score with a dominant 66 in the 56th edition of the prestigious tournament.
The competition, one of AGC’s longest-running and most esteemed events, witnessed a series of impressive scores, with many players finishing several shots under their handicap. Wales had a steady start, shooting 42 on the front nine before finding his rhythm with a birdie on the 10th hole. Despite bogeys on the 11th and 12th, he closed out strongly with six consecutive pars, finishing with a gross 78 and an exceptional net 63 to take the title.
Saleh rediscovered his putting form to secure the Medal, carding five birdies and just one bogey for an outstanding gross score of 66, finishing at least seven shots ahead of the competition. In the divisional categories, Rashed Ahmed Al Kaabi won Division One with a net 69, Adel Ali Al Fayyadh took Division Two with a superb 65 net, and Abdullah Al Hasan matched that score to claim victory in Division Three.
The prize ceremony, held in a packed clubhouse, was led by Yusuf Ali Kanoo, alongside Ahmed Abdullah Kanoo, Stephen Wagstaff, Tournament Director Rashed Al Qutami, and Club Captain Steve Newall. The Kanoo family’s ongoing support of the event was warmly acknowledged. The evening also marked a farewell for long-time club member Lynn St Lawrence, who is set to depart for Australia. Having served in various AGC committee roles over the years, Lynn’s contributions were celebrated as the club wished her well in her next chapter.
The competition continues next week with the Watson Salver event.
