George Foreman, the former heavyweight champion who became a beloved entrepreneur, passed away on Friday at the age of 76, his family announced.
A fearsome puncher in his youth, Foreman won Olympic gold in 1968 before claiming the heavyweight title by demolishing Joe Frazier in 1973. His reign ended in the legendary 1974 Rumble in the Jungle, where Muhammad Ali’s rope-a-dope tactic handed him his first loss. After retiring in 1977 to become a minister, Foreman made a stunning comeback a decade later, regaining the heavyweight crown at age 45 by knocking out Michael Moorer in 1994.
