As the world marks the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, Bahrain has reaffirmed its belief in the power of sport to unite communities and promote lasting peace.
His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, said that Bahrain remains committed to supporting international efforts that use sport as a force for good.
“Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, continues to champion global initiatives that promote peace and sustainable development,” he said.
Shaikh Khalid also acknowledged the role of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in strengthening youth and sport in the Kingdom, saying this leadership has helped position Bahrain as a proactive supporter of meaningful international partnerships.
This year’s global theme – social inclusion – reflects the central message of sport as a shared language. “Sport has a unique ability to break down barriers,” Shaikh Khalid said. “It brings people together regardless of their backgrounds, and helps create equal opportunities for all.”
He added that Bahrain is proud to support these values. “By embracing sport, we embrace a path toward a more inclusive, peaceful, and sustainable world,” he said.
The Kingdom continues to welcome programmes and initiatives that use sport to build bridges and promote understanding around the globe.
