Pirelli reveals tyre selection for 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix

With the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix kicking off tomorrow and running through Sunday, teams are preparing for a crucial race in the Formula 1 season. Pirelli, the official tyre supplier, has revealed the compounds that will be available to the teams for the fourth round of the championship.

The 2025 Selection Breakdown

After a busy start to the season, Bahrain marks the middle race of the first triple-header, and the teams are no strangers to the Bahrain International Circuit. They were here in late February for pre-season testing, but this time the conditions and tyre strategy are set to be a little different.

For the Bahrain race, Pirelli has allocated the C1 (hard), C2 (medium), and C3 (soft) compounds, the same tyres that teams used during the Japanese Grand Prix the previous weekend. Drivers will receive two sets of the hard tyre, three sets of the medium tyre, and eight sets of the soft tyre, as well as the green intermediate tyres and the blue full wets, should conditions take a turn for the worse.

A Hotter Challenge

An extra set of softs will be given to any driver who reaches Q3 in Qualifying, while all drivers must use at least two different slick compounds during the race—weather permitting, of course. The temperature in Bahrain will be a key factor in tyre management, and Pirelli has warned that the Sakhir circuit’s unique characteristics will require a fresh approach compared to the cooler conditions in Japan.

“Temperature will be a very important variable when it comes to tyre management,” said Pirelli’s weekend preview. “While the teams will have data from the pre-season test to guide them, the weather at this time of year is often much hotter, which could change the game.”

One-Stop vs. Two-Stop Strategy

The Sakhir circuit’s conditions are likely to make tyre strategy even more vital, with a potential shift in race strategies. Traditionally, a two-stop strategy has been used in Bahrain, but with the modifications to the 2025 compounds, including a softer C2 and C3, a one-stop strategy may be a more viable option. The better performance delta between the three compounds could mean more strategic choices for teams, especially with warmer track conditions expected.

Adjusting to Sakhir’s Demands

The first practice sessions will be crucial for teams as they adjust their setups and fine-tune their strategies for qualifying and the race. Much will depend on how the weather shapes up, making the timing of FP2— scheduled at a similar time to the start of the race—a key moment in understanding how the tyres will perform under race conditions.

With the data from testing and previous races in hand, teams will be hoping to strike the perfect balance in tyre choice as they aim for the podium in the desert.
