McLaren junior Alex Dunne delivered a flawless performance to seize his first-ever Formula 2 feature race victory in Bahrain, charging to the top step in what was the 200th race since the series' modern return in 2017.

The Rodin Motorsport driver was in a league of his own under the Sakhir sun, pulling clear of the field and crossing the line over eight seconds ahead of fellow Brit Luke Browning. It marked a fitting result for the first full-length F2 race of the season, following the rain-hit cancellation in Melbourne last month.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Dunne said. “We’ve worked hard all winter, and to deliver a performance like this on such a historic weekend for F2 is just incredible.”

Behind the McLaren junior, Hitech’s Browning had no answer to Dunne’s raw pace but held off a late charge from Leonardo Fornaroli, who secured a strong third for Invicta Racing.

Campos Racing’s Pepe Martí finished a solid fourth, just ahead of ART’s Victor Martins in fifth, while a tightly packed midfield saw MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor lead home a train of cars including Dino Beganovic, Arvid Lindblad, Gabriele Minì, and Joshua Dürksen – all securing valuable early-season points.

It was a day to forget for Prema’s Sebastian Montoya. After struggling throughout the weekend, his Sunday woes were compounded by a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, dropping him from 18th to 19th.

With the 2025 F2 season now properly underway, all eyes shift to Jeddah, but it’s Dunne’s name that echoes loudest across the paddock. A new title contender may just have arrived.
