Askar receives AHF chief Executive

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) General Secretary, Abdul Rahman Askar recently received at his office the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Chief Executive, Tayyab Ikram.

He is also the Head of International Relations for the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and was in Bahrain on a landmark official visit at the invitation of the Bahrain Hockey Association (BHA). Askar welcomed Ikram and praised the great efforts of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) in their efforts to promote field hockey in Asia and in particular the Kingdom of Bahrain, where the game has been played since the 1960s.

Ikram expressed his admiration for the promotion of sport within the Kingdom through various events and tournaments, most notably the Formula One Grand Prix and presented the vision of the AHF spreading field hockey across Asia and expressed his ambition of Bahrain as being a key nation in promoting hockey in the Arab world.

Future plans to include Bahrain as part of the international hockey fraternity were also presented to Askar.

Ikram lauded the efforts of the BHA in promoting field hockey through various activities and tournaments held over the past five years under the current team. The meeting was also attended by Abdul Jalil Asad, BOC Executive Director of Sports Affairs and Jude D’Souza, Head of the BHA.
