Old games, new fire

The Bahrain Traditional Sports Committee has confirmed that registration for the Al-Muruth Popular Games Championship will officially close tomorrow, April 25, and interest is already pouring in from every corner of the Kingdom.

Set to run from April 27 to May 7, the championship will feature a nostalgic lineup of traditional Bahraini games including Dama, Dominoes, Doubles Carrom, Kout, and Hand. Players from all age groups and both genders are invited to compete, with sign-ups taking place through the official website of the Bahrain Traditional Sports Committee.

More than a game

Far more than just friendly competition, this tournament is part of a broader cultural push to celebrate and preserve Bahrain’s folk games—a reflection of the Kingdom’s community values, simplicity, and shared heritage.

The championship promises to bring together generations in a family-friendly environment that echoes the spirit of Bahrain’s past while giving it a modern stage.

Keeping tradition alive

The committee describes the event as “one of Bahrain’s premier sporting and cultural events,” drawing the attention of traditional games enthusiasts, cultural preservationists, and local spectators alike.

With time ticking down to the registration deadline, those keen to be part of this lively celebration of national identity are being urged to secure their place, and their chance to show off some old-school skills, before it's too late.
