Plenty of thrills in exciting second round of Drag Racing
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) hosted an exciting second round in the 2015/2016 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship last week.
Record-holding Bahraini racer Salah Salahuddin was among a long list of winners at the meeting. Salahuddin triumphed in the Street V8 category, which was one of 14 different competition classes for both cars and motorbikes to take to BIC’s world-class quarter-mile drag strip.
A total of 100 participants from across the Gulf and beyond competed in the event, which was held alongside BIC’s National Day Festival, thus making for an extra special occasion.
Salahuddin clinched first place amongst the Street V8 participants after winning the final run in 8.020 seconds. He beat Abduljalil Abdulkareem, who had a time of 8.486 secs. In third place was Mohamed Sulyman.
In the Outlaw 10.5 class, Abdulwahab Salim claimed the number one spot after beating Abdulla Alsory in the last round. Salim had a fine run of 4.093 secs, while Alsory had a time of 4.231 secs. Thalal Ithman took the final podium spot.
The Street 4 and 6 category was won by Mohammed Aljalhma. He had a winning time of 9.714 secs, to defeat Adel Hassan. Jamil Ebrhaim Hilal was in third place.
In the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD), Ibrahim bin Hasher secured the top spot after winning the final against Mohammed bin Hasher. Ibrahim clocked winning mark of 8.750 secs. Mohammed Mansoor claimed third place.
Saeed Yahya Saeed won the Super Street 6-Cylinder class, finishing the final race in 8.133 secs. Mohamed Shakeeb was the runner-up and Nawaf Almnnai was a narrow third.
There was plenty of heated competition in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder category. Hammed Haji was the big winner with a 6.879 secs run in the final. Mohamed Shakeeb finished in second place and Yousif Zayani was third.
