BOC, US Sports Academy cooperation boosted

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC)'s secretary-general Abdulrahman Askar expressed his keenness to strengthen the committee's partnership and cooperation with the United States Sports Academy at all levels. Askar met the United States Sports Academy president CEO T.J. Rosandich here in Manama.
Askar said he is delighted for the partnership established long time ago with the academy in bid to promote the experience and capabilities of Bahrain’s Sports Training and Development Centre to qualify sports officials in all areas.

From his side, Rosandich presented the programmes and courses, which the academy conducts in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE and other nations around the world. He also introduced the latest activities that can be availed by the BOC exclusively from its cooperation with the academy. Rosandich expressed pride for the strong ties linking both organisations, and noted the importance of linking sports with science for its positive influence to develop sports.

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, accredited sports university offering online bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in areas of sport coaching and management.

The academy was the first and is the only of its kind in the United States. It was established in 1972 to turn around a new scientific finding that linked poor preparation of coaches to the injuries incurred by the athletes they supervised. 

The academy started conducting its international programmes in 1976 by signing one of its first international agreements to deliver educational and training programmes in Bahrain.

This historic relationship has continued to this day with the latest programme that commenced in February, 2002. This latest three-year programme in the Ministry of Education has the objective to upgrade the Kingdom’s physical education (PE) curriculum and introduce an interscholastic competitive sport programme in the nation's schools.

The Academy has a truly global reach, having conducted sport education and service programmes in more than 60 countries around the globe. The institution currently has in place almost fifty Protocols for Cooperation with sports organizations or institutions of higher learning worldwide.
