Al Wasl Club clinch volleyball gold

Al Wasl Club of the UAE defeated Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 to clinch the gold medal in the final round-robin match of the volleyball competition in the Third Arab Women Sports Tournament 2016 (AWST) in Sharjah, UAE.

This victory for Al Wasl made up for its 3-1 loss in 2014 in the second edition of the tournament against the same opponent (SLC) who took the gold.

In this edition’s final standings, Al Wasl took gold, Bahrain’s Al Muharraq silver and Sharjah Ladies Club bronze, with Lebanon’s Al Qalamoon Club fourth, Lebanese Olympic fifth and Palestinian Ebdaa Club in sixth.

In the basketball competition semi-finals, Jordanian Orthodox Club advanced to the final round after beating Algerian Olympic club 58-53 after trailing 23-25 at half-time. SLC made it to the final winning 68-66 against Egyptian Sporting Club in a very exciting match after coming from 28-30 behind after the first-half.

The tournament held under the patronage of Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, began on February 2.
