The Frenchman emerged from an epic struggle through the Welsh forest dirt tracks with Estonia's Ford racer Otto Tanak holding a razor's edge margin of just ten seconds.
"I was watching my back the whole rally," said Ogier afterwards.
"He (Tanak) flew the whole weekend. Didn't make a mistake. I had to be perfect towin this," said Ogier, who clinched his fifth win of the season to claim a fourth straight constructors title for his German employers, having won a fourth straight world title himself two weeks ago in Catalonia.
"What I did here I did for Volkswagen, without them I wouldn't have won all this," the 32-year-old said.
Belgian Thierry Neuville of Hyundai was third, cementing his runners up spot in the season standings.
