Kell Brook returns as light-middleweight
Sheffield : Kell Brook will be back in the ring on March 3 in his home city of Sheffield for a fight in his new light-middleweight division.
The former IBF welterweight champion is bouncing back after consecutive defeats to middleweight king Gennady Golovkin and American starlet Eroll Spence Jr. GGG stopped brave Brook in September 2016 at middleweight – where few men on earth dare to face the Kazakh.
And hot prospect Spence snatched away his welterweight gold in May when Brook was forced to retire through injury.
Brook will now compete in between those two divisions but he carries a worrying weakness in his eye sockets that were damaged by Golovkin and exploited by Spence.
But promoter Eddie Hearn expects big things from Special K now he can put on a few more pounds. The Matchroom boss said: “He’s going to be back March 3, Sheffield Arena.
“Kell Brook will be back at 154lb, the light-middleweight division, to begin his assault on becoming a two-weight world champion. “He’s had two epic fights with Eroll Spence Jr and Gennady Golovkin and it’s time for him to move up. I believe he can be a force at that weight.”
