Falah bowls high series on qualifying’s penultimate day

Yousef Falah rolled the daily high series of 770 pins on the penultimate day of qualifying in the 2019 edition of The Godfathers Tournament, currently being played at Funland Centre. Falah registered his top score of the competition which was also the number one trial overall amongst all participants. It put him in third place on the Group A standings and just six pinfalls behind new leader Ahmed Algaoud.

All the leading bowlers are vying for a spot in the top two in order to gain direct berths in the third round. Bowlers ranked third to 12th will advance to the second round. Only one more day of qualifying was held yesterday night. Rounds Two and Three take place Thursday and Friday (May 30 and 31) at Funland, culminating with the Step-Ladder Finals. The Godfathers Tournament is being held in memory of the late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti and the late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. Falah’s other two leading series in the tournament were 758 and 675.

He raised his average to 244.8 pins per game with a 2,203 total. The national team star now trails only Algaoud and Emerson Gotencio amongst the elite bowlers in their division. Algaoud jumped straight into first place after improving his average to 245.4 with a 2,209 total. His three best series were 762, 750 and 697. Gotencio followed with a 245.0 average and 2,205 total in second place. Ranked behind Falah were Fawaz Abdulla and Abdulla Abdulkarim, while sixth through 12th were Dante Tisdom, JM Villanueva, Mohammed Al Mannai, Ahmed Fareed, Abdullah Aldulaijan, Ahmed Almalki and Ahmed Alkhaja.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Mahmoud and Hisham Mohammed also had daily high scores competing in their respective divisions. Mahmoud posted the high score of 691 amongst the intermediate bowlers in Group B while Mohammed had the top mark of 609 pins for the beginning bowlers in Group C. In Group B, Mahmoud played his best trial to date and it added to his other leading scores of 686 and 664, bringing his average to 226.8 with a 2,041 total in second position.
