Man United Car painted with memorable moments

London

---

Manchester United memorabilia comes in all shapes and sizes, but it’s unlikely any can compete with this mobile shrine on wheels that has gone on sale in Huddersfield for £790.

The 14 year-old Mazda 323F wouldn’t normally attract attention, but the eye-catching paint job featuring glorious scenes from Manchester United’s history is guaranteed to earn a second glance from Red Devils fans.

The 2001 car’s previous owner decided to pay homage to his beloved club with artwork that includes an aerial view of Old Trafford on the roof and an picture of captain Wayne Rooney scoring his memorable overhead kick against local rivals City in 2011.

Elsewhere, images of  legendary figures Sir Alex Ferguson, Ryan Giggs and Sir Matt Busby also make an appearance on the bodywork, which also includes important dates from the past and a large No 7 - the shirt number worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The five-door hatchback, which has 67,000 miles on the clock, has been repaired after previously being written off with Category C damage - while the seller lists an alarm, electric windows and an in-car entertainment system among its selling points.

The Mazda 323F is for sale at Trade Cars Cleckheaton near Huddersfield and ‘must be seen and driven’, according to the seller.

Meanwhile, former manager Ferguson has revealed that Rooney twice turned down a move to Manchester United because of his love for Everton.

Ferguson, talking to ITV ahead of England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against San Marino, confessed to Rooney knocking him back at 14 and 16 when the club could have landed him for a fraction of the £26 million they eventually paid for him in 2004.

“Jim Ryan came back from one of our academy games at the 14 years level and he said “I’ve seen a player” and he said the boy is Wayne Rooney and we tried to get him because there’s a window at the end of the season - it’s a one-week window - where we can entice or approach a boy from another club to come join your academy, but it failed,” Ferguson said.

“The boy wanted to stay at Everton - at that time he had a love of the club and he’s an Everton fan.”

“When he got to 16 we tried again. We approached him to join as a 16-year-old, but once again he refused.”
