Salwa Eid strikes again in Diamond League

Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser was crowned champion of the women’s 400 metres in the prestigious International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League. Salwa defended her crown after winning her race in the Weltklasse Zurich athletics meeting in Switzerland. It was her fifth triumph on this year’s Diamond League series and it came in the penultimate round of the highly regarded IAAF competition.

Salwa had also previously won her 400m races in the Diamond League meets in Shanghai, Rome, Rabat and Lausanne. Meanwhile, compatriots Winfred Yavi and Birhanu Balew had solid performances. Winfred was seventh in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, and Balew came 10th in the men’s 5,000m. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his pride at Eid’s win which adds to the series of accomplishments achieved in the “Golden Era”, underscoring that this victory confirms the successful strategy being implemented by the Bahrain Athletics Association.

The Deputy President of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee escalated his sincere congratulations to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, and HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity and Youth Affairs and President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports on the achievement.

HH Shaikh Khalid said that this victory embodies the utmost sponsorship extended to the sports movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain in general and athletics in particular by the Kingdom’s leadership who has been keen to pave the way for an ideal environment for the national teams to enable them to achieve such accomplishments that reflect the huge development made by the sports field in Bahrain.

He added that this accomplishment is the result of the backing of HH Shaikh Nasser and HH’s keenness to extend all the required support to the national teams to ensure they are ready to compete against anybody in any arena, stating that the launch of the “Golden Era” following the “Year of Gold” in 2018 represents a motivation factor for the Bahrainis to secure further positive results.
