Fuschillo, Ramadan lead singles quarter-finalists

Matteo Fuschillo of Great Britain and Hagar Ramadan of Egypt booked their seats in their respective quarter-final rounds yesterday in the second Shine Bahrain Super Series ITF Junior Championship, being played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation in Isa Town. Both Fuschillo and Ramadan needed to go three sets in order to take down their quality opponents.

Fuschillo defeated Pierre Antoine Tailleu of France 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to make it to the Boys’ Singles last eight, while Ramadan beat Briton Issey Purser 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the Girls’ Singles quarters. Fuschillo’s victory maintained his hot streak which he began by taking down the boys’ top seed in the first round. Ramadan, on the other hand, lived up to her tag as the number one seed in the Girls’ Singles with her hardearned win.

In another Boys’ Singles match, Daniel Abernethy of Great Britain beat highly regarded fourth seed Mark Owen Endler of Germany 7-6 (4), 6-3. Also advancing to the last eight were second seed Garv Bahl of India, third seed Alexander Knox Jones of Great Britain, fifth seed Pablo Trochu of France, sixth seed Nicolas Moser of Austria, eighth-seeded Briton Archie Graham and his countryman Tommy Harrison.

Fuschillo takes on Harrison in the last eight, Abernethy faces Graham, Knox Jones plays Trochu, and Bahl goes head to head with Moser. In the Girls’ Singles, Ramadan was joined in the quarters by eighth seed Rhea Singh of India, Olivia Rook, Aryana Bartlett and Arabella Moen of Great Britain, and the Egyptian trio of Jermine Sherif, Mariam Atia and Jannah Elnemr. Ramadan next faces Singh, Rook takes on Atia, Moen faces Sherif and Bartlett plays Elnemr.

In the Boys’ Doubles, the top-seeded pairing of Bahl and Moser will face fourth seeds Knox Jones and Graham in the semi-finals. The other final four contest will be between the duo of Endler and Trochu and the tandem of Andrej Jovanovic of Serbia and Felipe Mikkelsen of Denmark. In the Girls’ Doubles semis, Bartlett and Rook take on Yara Alhogbani of Saudi Arabia and Alexandra Maksimova of Russia, while Sherif and Atia play Ananya Kothakota of the USA and Hrudaya Shah of India.
