Bahrain hailed for success of historic horserace

Bahrain has been given two thumbs up for the “fantastic” organisation and running of the first-ever Bahrain International Trophy yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club. International Racing Bureau (IRB) Director Adrian Beaumont was all praise for the event, which he believes will grow each year.

“Everything has gone fantastically well,” he said after Royal Julius powered to an impressive late victory by just three-quarters of a length from the runner-up. “We have been so looked-after, HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and all the committee have been fantastic, and Shaikh Salman bin Rashed Al Khalifa has looked after us fantastically well. “We’ve had an enjoyable preparation over the past few days; we really enjoyed the Bahrain culture and have had a lovely time.

“Everyone really enjoyed themselves. We’ve tested everything out about the quarantine and the way the place runs. We had a fantastic crowd atmosphere today; everyone was excited. “I think this event is only going to grow. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year we add more races to the fixture. With this event, Bahrain will only grow in importance in the world horseracing scene.” He added: “This race is really well-placed in the calendar, being in November.

It’s the end of our European season and we have a really ideally placed race for us to come. The prize money is fantastic and we love racing on the turf here.” Beaumont was particularly pleased with the way the field of Europe-based horses were taken care of on their way to Bahrain and during their stay. “The horses have thrived in the climate here, they really enjoyed the racing and the training,” he explained. “Everything is good about Bahrain.

It is really easy to get to. The horses flew in on Monday via Luxembourg and they have settled well since they’ve been here.” Beaumont congratulated the team of Royal Julius for their superb win, and was thrilled about the exciting finish of the race.
