Man City up to second after Burnley win; 10-man Palace go fifth

Manchester City moved up to second in the Premier League with a dominating 4-1 win at Burnley on Tuesday.

Two goals from Gabriel Jesus and one each from Rodri and Riyad Mahrez lifted champions City above Leicester and within eight points of leaders Liverpool.

"We were having a party because we needed this victory to have the confidence," Rodri told Deutsche press agency (dpa).

"We're doing our best but sometimes we don't have the results.

"It's a long way to the end of the season but it's important."

After winning just once in the last five games in all competitions, City were back to their normal commanding selves at Turf Moor.

In the night's other match, Jeffrey Schlupp's goal lifted 10-man Crystal Palace past Bournemouth 1-0 and into fifth place.

Palace's Mamadou Sakho was sent off in the 19th minute at Selhurst Park for a high challenge on Adam Smith.

Bournemouth then dominated possession but rarely threatened the Palace goal.

And Schlupp, who earlier came on for the injured Patrick van Aanholt, made them pay by send in a low shot in the 76th minute.

Bournemouth's fourth consecutive loss leaves them in 12th place.

Liverpool look to extend their lead when they host Everton, Leicester face Watford, Aston Villa are at Chelsea, Manchester United take on Tottenham, Norwich visit Southampton and West Ham are at Wolverhampton Wanderers in Wednesday's other matches.
