Shaikh Khalid: Bahrain make history with title
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee hailed the performance of Bahrain’s National Football team for their triumph in the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup after defeating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final game, held in Doha.
“We are extremely proud of this historic victory which was achieved by our national football team. It’s a direct outcome of the unlimited support sports receiving from HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which has contributed to accomplishing many achievements at regional, continental and international levels.
Such accomplishments have contributed to cementing Bahrain’s leading position in sports,” HH Shaikh Khalid said. He further added, “What has been achieved is the fruit of my brother HH Shaikh Nasser’s vision to uplift the football sports in Bahrain. Winning the West Asian Football Championship last August marked the Kingdom’s new dawn in this sport and this was followed by lifting the Arabian Gulf Cup.”
Moreover, HH Shaikh Khalid hailed the performances showcased by the Bahrainis throughout the tournament, underlining that the Kingdom’s players made a historic achievement by winning the tournament for the first time. He congratulated Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Football Association on the win.
