Arsenal see off Bournemouth 2-1 to face Portsmouth next in FA Cup

Arsenal progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday night, with a 2-1 win at Bournemouth.

Bukayo Saka fired Arsenal in front after five minutes as he lashed his angled effort from the left in off the crossbar.

Saka then switched roles from scorer to provider for the second goal in the 26th minute as his left-wing cross was comfortably converted into the net by Eddie Nketiah, Deutsche press agency (dpa) reported.

"We started really sharp and played some great football," said Nketiah.

"Towards the end they came back into it and the resilience we showed was excellent."

Sam Surridge, who arrived as a substitute in the 89th minute, scored a mere consolation goal for Bournemouth within 10 minutes of stoppage time.

"We're very disappointed. We gave it a good go in the end. It was just a poor start," said Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe. "Against the big teams you can take things from the game, even if you lose."

The added minutes were made up from Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi being taken off on a stretcher in the 62nd minute following a collision.

"We'll have to assess tomorrow but when Mustafi has to come off normally it is not a good sign," said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta's Arsenal will travel an extra 90 kilometres from Bournemouth to face third-tier League One side Portsmouth in the next round.

"I have a lot of faith in them," added Arteta when asked about Arsenal's chances of reaching the FA Cup final in May.

"I think they are developing really well. They are willing and hungry and will only get better. Our history with this cup is massive for the club. We need to take it step by step."
