Bahrain’s top karters set for round five of national sprints on Saturday

Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) hosts the fifth round of the 2019/2020 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC) on Saturday in Sakhir.

With only three meetings remaining in the season, the action is set to heat up in the two highly competitive series under the BKSC umbrella, including the Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Challenge (BRMMC) for Rotax kart owners and the Bahrain Sprint Sodi World Series (BSSWS), which is the premier arrive-and-drive karting championship in the region.

Action will be held along BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre Commission International de Karting track from 9.40am and continue until a little after 4pm. All are welcome to attend. Entrance to BIKC is free of charge. The BRMMC will see drivers going wheel to wheel in five classes, namely the Senior Max, Max Masters, Junior Max, Mini Max and Micro Max.

Heading into round five, Fahad Alkhaled tops the Senior Max drivers’ standings, while Osama Azzouka is in first place amongst the Max Masters competitors. Lewis Smith leads the championship battle in the Junior Max category, Shanthosh Kumar enjoys a big gap in front of the Mini Max points table, and Gracie Rose Grantham is setting the pace in the Micro Max class.

The Micro and Mini participants will get the day’s racing going with Qualifying Practice at 9.40am. They will then have their Pre-Final at 10.40am and then their nine-lap Final race at 12.35pm. The Junior Max runners will have their Qualifying Practice at 9.52am, to be followed by their Pre-Final at 10.57am and the 15-lap Final at 12.55pm.

The Senior Max and Max Masters will be out on track together for Qualifying Practice at 10.04am. Their Pre-Final is then set for 11.22am, setting the stage for 15-lap Final at 1.30pm. The BRMMC podium will then be held at around 2.30pm, awarding the round’s winners.

Meanwhile, the BSSWS is expected to feature many of Bahrain’s other top karters, such as championship leader Ali Baslar, and top rivals Abdulla Buhindi, Abubaker Ali, Ahmed Ebrahim and Ebrahim Mubarak, to name a few. Action in the BSSWS will kick off on Saturday at 2.40pm with Qualifying. The Pre-Final is then scheduled for 3.10pm, to be followed by the 15-lap Final at 3.45pm. The BSSWS podium ceremony will then take place from 4.40pm

. The 2019/2020 BKSC features seven rounds in all. Saturday’s fifth meeting will be followed by the sixth and penultimate event on March 7, while the championship finale will be held on April 4.
