American Zach Makovsky traveled to Bahrain in hopes of securing a semifinal spot in the BRAVE CF Flyweight tournament against Abdul Hussein. Even though he got his wish, he didn’t get to fight - his opponent fell ill during the weight cut and was eliminated from the competition. However, if it was for Muhammad Mokaev, Makovsky would be in action at last week’s BRAVE CF 42.
Widely regarded as the number one prospect in mixed martial arts, Mokaev was in Bahrain finalizing his preparations for his own bout, which takes place on October 1st, at BRAVE CF 43. He heard Makovsky was left without an opponent and jumped at the opportunity, even though he’s only just begun his professional career after a historic amateur run. ‘’You know, I was in the lift at the hotel when I heard the news.
I called my manager, I called everyone and said I could make weight by Wednesday and fight this guy. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, but I’m always ready’’, said ‘’The Punisher’’ who will face Jamie Kelly in a Catchweight bout of 59 kg as he looks to fluctuate between the Flyweight and Bantamweight divisions.
At only 2-0 as a professional, Muhammad is eager to continue gaining experience professionally and is already looking ahead to a potential title shot against the winner of the biggest-ever tournament in the Flyweight division. ‘’They already know me, everyone in the Flyweight division. I want to keep active after I finish this guy I want to fight again this year and then I want to go for the title in 2021’’.
