Paris Saint-Germain football director rebukes coach Tuchel
Leonardo, director of football at French football club Paris Saint-Germain, rebuked Thomas Tuchel after the German coach publicly called for improvements to the team.
"We really did not like that. If there is someone who is not happy but decided to stay, then he must accept the club's policy and internal rules," Leonardo said on Friday evening, after Saint-Germain's victory over Angers 6/1 in the sixth round of the French League.
Last season, Saint-Germain won three domestic titles and reached the Champions League final before losing to Bayern Munich.
Despite this, Tuchel has repeatedly called for new deals, but Leonardo said the Corona pandemic crisis has made things difficult financially.
"We live in a difficult situation, not only in football," said the former Brazilian national team player, adding that the club had recorded losses of nearly 100 million euros due to the pandemic.
"To stay in this club, you have to be prepared to suffer for the club, and to sacrifice yourself, even when we're going through tough times," Leonardo added.
Leonardo did not disclose whether the club would impose a penalty on Tuchel, whose contract with Saint-Germain continues until the end of the season, and said only: "We will examine internally what we will do."
San Germa signed only right-back Alessandro Florenzi and substitute goalkeeper Alexandre Lotille, while Edinson Cavatti, Thiago Silva, Thomas Monier, Tangi Kouassi and Erik Maxime Choubou-Moting departed.
While the team stuck to the survival of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.
"I'm not saying the team is weak. We are talking about a great team," Leonardo said.
