Bahrain-based racer Lewis Smith will be competing in two high-profile karting events in Europe starting this week, in support of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF). The Junior Max champion of the 2019/2020 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship’s Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Challenge, who is the ambassador for Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) Motorsport Team supported by BAS CEO Salman Al Mahmeed, will be suiting up for the Champions of the Future meeting from Thursday to November 2, wherein top-class karters from across the world will be competing.
Lewis will then go against motorsport’s brightest young stars once more in the FIA Karting World Championship, from November 6 to 9. The elite of global karting will be going head-to-head in order to crown the world and junior world champions. Both meetings will be taking place at Kartodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal. Lewis will also be utilising his experience from both events to prepare for the 2020 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, which is set for January 23 to 30, 2021.
Lewis stated: “I am extremely proud to have this opportunity and look to enhance my experience with racing against the best competitors in the sport. It will be very challenging and tough, but I am ready to put all my efforts into these international races. “I would like to thank personally the BMF, Praga Middle East Team, and Mr Salman Al Mahmeed for all their support, and I look to make them proud on my return. “These events will definitely give me the best preparation I require for the 2020 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in January, and will grow with the knowledge and experience gained over these two races.” Lewis’s parents Tony and Camilla added: “We as a family are extremely proud of Lewis’s achievements and have committed our full support to him to ensure he has the best possible opportunity in all of the forthcoming races, and hope to see him progress his talent into the future.” Al Mahmeed commented: “I knew from the start Lewis had potential and we at BAS wish him well and the best of luck.”
