Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will start on pole today in the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, as the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) welcomes the Kingdom’s highly appreciated frontline health workers, first responders and their families for a spectacular night race.

Hamilton topped a hotly contested qualifying last night with a best lap of one minute 27.264 seconds around BIC’s 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix track under the lights in Q3. Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas have locked up the front row for Mercedes.

Following the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, frontline health workers, first responders and their immediate family members have been invited to enjoy the 57-lap race. A further group of frontline health workers and first responders have been invited to attend the F1 Rolex Sakhir Grand Prix, set to take place next Sunday (December 6) at BIC.
These invitations are in appreciation of their tremendous efforts and sacrifices as part of the national response to COVID-19.

The initiative is being held under the theme “#Thank You_ Our Heroes”. Today’s F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is scheduled for a 5.10 pm start. It is the 15th of 17 rounds in the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, and it will commemorate the landmark 70th anniversaries of both F1 and national carrier Gulf Air.
