Muharraq open basketball season with win

Muharraq registered a convincing 89-73 victory over Nuwaidrat last night to make a winning start to the 2020/2021 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Muharraq, who feature a reinforced line-up following the additions of four key players to their roster, used a strong showing in the second half to come away with the result.
They led by just two, 38-36, after the first two periods but then outscored Nuwaidrat by 11 in the third to head into the final canto up 64-51.
Muharraq then did enough in the final canto, leading by as many as 20 points before securing the final result.
Bader Abdulla Malabes top scored for the victors with 20 points while Mohammed Juma’a added 18, Mohammed Buallay nine and Younes Ku- wayed 10 points.
Nuwaidrat were paced by the 29 points and 14 rebounds of American professional AJ John, while Hasan Madan chipped in with 17 and Jawad Abdulla 10.
League action continues tonight with two games on schedule. At 5.30pm, defending champions Al Ahli take on Bahrain Club followed at 7.45pm by Riffa facing off with Al Ettihad.
