Port Lions lifts Al Adiyat Racing Cup

Port Lions lived up to its tag as a pre-race favourite after winning the Al Adiyat Racing Cup (Crown Prince Trial), which headlined yesterday’s races at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC). In attendance at yesterday’s events were His Majesty the King’s Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and REHC deputy chairman His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa along with other high-ranking officials.

David Egan saddled the six-year-old, 113-rated winner to first place for owners Victorious and trainer Fawzi Nass in a total time of one minute 47.483 seconds over the event’s nine-furlong distance.

The result earned them the largest stake in the BD8,000 total prize. Medal Winner was the runner-up three-and-a-quarter lengths behind for Al Mohamediya Racing, Hussain Aldailami and Paddy Mathers. Macaque followed to make it two Victorious horses in the top three. Marcialis Jaures jockeyed the Hesham Al Haddad-trained third-placer. Seven other cups were up for grabs on yesterday’s action-packed day of racing.

In the day’s seventh race, Likethelook clinched the HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Ramadhan Stable and Jaber Ramadhan. Seamus Cronin rode the six-year-old winner to a 58.721s time in completing the five-furlong distance. Likethelook claimed the lion’s share of the BD4,000 total prize.

Four Wheel Drive finished as runner-up a half-length behind for Gunners Racing, Alan Smith and Gerald Mosse; while London Look came third for Karrar Abdulhadi Ali Al Baqqali, Taleb Ali and Abdulla Faisal. In the sixth race for the HH Shaikh Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup (Crown Prince Trial), Al Tariq was triumphant for KHK Racing and Hesham Al Haddad.

Jockey Husain Makki steered the five-year-old to the win in 1:59.065 in the nine-furlong, BD4,000 event, one-and-three-fourths length ahead of Daleel, competing for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, James Naylor and Abdulla Faisal. Campolina was third for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Hesham Al Haddad and Rosie Jessop.

Race five over seven furlongs with a BD2,000 prize was won by Byline for Al Adiyat Racing and Alan Smith. Gerald Mosse saddled the winner to a 1:23.226 finish to lift the REHC Cup. Al Fajir Mukbile was second a length back, while Prince Elzaam rounded out the top three. The day’s fourth race was for the HH Shaikh Salman bin Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, held over seven furlongs with a BD2,000 prize, and Pont Vert was the winner in 1:24.495.

The Jassim Mohammed Asad-owned, Ramzi Al Baqlawa-trained horse was ridden by Ben Sanderson. Jamais Assez and Forbidden Land finished second and third, respectively. The third event for the HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup (Oaks Trail) was won by Waseela for KHK Racing, Hesham Al Haddad and David Egan. It was an eight-furlong race with a BD2,000 prize.

Waseela finished ahead of Baltis Daughter and Ramiyaat. Elsewhere yesterday, Sadara won the HH Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup in race two for HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, James Naylor and Abdulla Faisal; while Kuheilan Afas 1708 kicked off yesterday’s action by winning the HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Paddy Mathers.
