Israel to postpone football games 'to avoid incidents’
Football matches in Israel that would have been attended by both Jewish and Palestinian fans were postponed this weekend amid a wave of deadly unrest between the two communities, Israeli police said Friday.
"Because of security measures, some football matches were postponed to avoid any incidents," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
He did not give details, but local media said a game Friday between Hapoel Ashkelon and Hapoel Bnei Lod had been postponed.
Seven Israelis and 37 Palestinians have died in two weeks of violence across Israel and the occupied West Bank, with hundreds more wounded in clashes.
