Bahrain have been seeded in Row 6 for the official draw of the Tokyo Olympic Games Men’s Handball Tournament. This was announced by the International Handball Federation (IHF), the sport’s global governing body.
The Bahraini national team are joined by their counterparts from Argentina in the same row. Row one comprises Denmark and Norway, row two features France and Sweden, row three includes Germany and Portugal, row four features Brazil and hosts Japan, while row five sees Spain and Egypt.
The final seedings were determined following the completion of the Tokyo Handball Qualification Tournament on Sunday, where Norway, Brazil, France, Portugal, Sweden and Germany joined already-qualified Denmark, Japan, Spain, Egypt, Argentina and Bahrain for the Olympics.
The IHF stated that it will release further details, including the date and location of the draw, in due course. Bahrain will be making their historic first-ever appearance at the Olympics in the Tokyo Games.
The Bahrainis booked their berth after winning the Men’s Asian Qualification Tournament held in Doha in October of 2019, defeating South Korea in the final. It is understood that Bahrain have re-signed Icelandic head coach Aron Kristjansson for the competition. Kristjansson guided the nationals to their Olympic berth.
